Mother's Day - Shayla Møller

How was the transition into motherhood for you?
It honestly came more naturally than I expected it to. I was the youngest child, and never spent much time with babies, so I was completely overwhelmed at the thought of taking care of a tiny human. But I surprised myself at how easily I was able to slip into the role. I think women have such powerful instincts when it comes to mothering their children. And I think every child, mother, and situation is a little different, and all we can do is try our best, and hope for the best. I know I'll never be the perfect mom, but I've learned to accept that, and still be able to find so much joy in the ride.

As a mother of three, how do you feel like the balance of working + mothering has gone for you?
Honestly, it depends on the day that you ask me. Some days, everything runs smoothly, and I feel like I have it all figured out. But other days, I feel overwhelmed, frazzled, scatterbrained and just like one big, hot mess. But I've been learning to embrace the ebb and flow! I enjoy and cherish the smooth days, and I try to keep a good perspective/attitude when things feel a little nutty.

We'd love to hear about your experience working for WildBird and what babywearing has meant to you through your motherhood journey.
I feel incredibly lucky to have a job that's so mom and baby-friendly. I get to work with and meet so many incredibly kind, smart, and talented people. It challenges me mentally and creatively, and it's helped me maintain a sense of identity outside of my role as a mother.
And babywearing has helped me so much in creating a special bond and connection with each of my babies. With each kid, babywearing has become more and more important. With my first, it felt fun and cute. With my second, it felt nice and convenient. With my third, it's felt like a necessary survival tool!

How would you describe the different hats you wear as a working mom?
Oh there are so many hats! At work, I'm an employee, a co-worker, a director, a visionary, a friend, a student, a teacher...and as a mom, I'm a caretaker, a listening ear, a house cleaner, a chauffeur, a nurse, a friend, a student, a teacher...and the list goes on.

What are some of the biggest lessons motherhood has taught you?
To not sweat the small stuff. That life is precious and fleeting, and learning to be truly present in each moment is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your kids!
